Blog #2

1. Mr. Dancealot is an example of someone who is there because they have to be not because he wants to. They know nothing about the subject and yet they classify themselves as a teacher. He read straight from the power point with no prior knowledge of the lesson he had planned in class. Mr. Dancealot also demonstrated dance moves behind a podium were his students were unable to view his actions. He also got aggravated when the students tried to communicate with each other to figure out what the teacher was trying to explain. I feel as teachers should be enthusiastic about the lesson or fake it. Teachers should interact with students and have open discussion after every new concept.

2. The conclusion of this video is that students are learning by way of computer and the teacher guides them on how to use the resource to it's full capability. The author shows how many resources are available and ways students can connect to each other in so many different ways. I don't agree with online learning because even trying to watch some of these videos they keep buffering and it can be very aggravating at times. I do think students should have access to a computer but it shouldn't be the main source for assignments.

 3. The student needs a teacher as a guide to help pave the way to creating an online textbook to get as much info about a subject they can. I am not opposed to converting to a virtual learning based way of teaching, but it has it flaws. I get the impression the a networked student doesn't need a teacher because to me it is basically all online and if you can build a network to find answers why should you need a teacher. After watching some videos I feel as teachers will be replaced by machines like most professions, prove me wrong if you don't agree.

4. Davis shows that you can connect students to each other from all around the world while learning. It provides new technology in the classroom and access to many resources using the internet. She also feels that with computers the students can research things and present a new lesson to the teacher as well. I like the argument of all the things to explore and connection you have to others who are learning the same thing as you are. I like paper and pencil, but also feel the student should have access to computer and all the possibilities with it. The computer provides connection, resources, help, new outlook on what you are studying, and you can keep all your assignments organized and eco friendly.

5. I am an undergraduate at USA, and I feel we are all tied in the race. When the undergrad and grad students were growing up we were taught with pencil and paper not these fancy computers. The elementary kids now all they know are iPads, MacBooks, etc. The kids had to teach themselves because that's all they know, so of course they will know how to operate these forms of technology better than the adults. As for the adults we are slowly adapting to this form so we are a little behind but I wouldn't classify us as losing. We are slowly learning because we do work and provide for families and have other stuff we have to take care of so we can't just sit on the computer for hours a day because we have more responsibilities as to the kid who comes home and has all the free time.

6. Flipping the classroom is new to me. I have never even heard of or thought about having having my students watch a lesson at home and bring their questions to class the next day. I personally don't think this approach will be useful to me as a teacher. I feel as my students should come to class and listen to me teach and go home with practice problems and come back the next day and spend few minutes at the beginning of class fixing these questions. I like the idea of my students having the option of having a recording of the lesson they can watch when they get home because we are all human and forget things. I don't like the fact my kids have to learn a new lesson at home by themselves when they are enrolled in school. College, yes. Elementary, no. I like to have one on one time with my teacher especially face to face when I have a question I would like my question answered before I move on in the lesson.

7.Students who are athletes study their opponent predict what they might try and play with, which is all ways a student can help learn new things in the classroom. Being optimistic and open to new subjects or as an athlete may look at it as looking to new plays for the next game. I love seeing student athletes succeed both physically and academically.

About Paula

1.about me, major interests, why attend USA, personal info, why entered education, and what educators work entails in 21 century
2. Paula Elizabeth Holt, entered this world on November 3, 1993. I am 20 years old and majoring in Elementary Education. I graduated from Satsuma High School. I played softball for over half my life. I enjoyed every minute on the ball field. I am looking for a co-ed team to play on, so if anyone knows a team please let me know. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 2010. Crohn's is an inflammatory bowel disease that usually affects the small intestine. I have had a foot of my intestine removed and I keep getting stronger everyday. I have recently discovered my passion for baking. I love to decorate cakes. I choose to attend USA because it is close to home and with me being sick a lot I couldn't get to far from my family. While growing up all I have heard is South Alabama to receive a four year degree. I am thankful for my parents to help me financially through college. Education got my attention so I am able to give back to my community and teach our future leaders of America. I enjoy interacting with kids and I think I am a great role model.
I currently live in Loxley, Alabama with my boyfriend, Evan. I work part time at Hibbett Sports in Spanish Fort. I am taking 4 classes this semester at USA. I believe I have my Crohn's under control with minor flairs. I am very excited to explore the world of teaching and use my creativity to impress my future students.

BLOG #1

1.This is my first semester at USA. I have not heard anything about EDM310, but after reading some of the posts in the reading assigned I have came to conclusion that I will be learning. It seems EDM310 is designed to teach you in a way that pushes your ability to learn on your own and have tips to express to our future students.
2.My fear in EDM310 is not being able to figure something out on the computer. I am computer literate, but I get frustrated when I have no idea how to figure out how to do something. I fear that I may not meet the "blog" standards.
3.EDM310 compared to the other classes I have taken seems that I will be doing a lot of self learning in EDM310. I don't know how EDM310 compares to other classes because I have not completed EDM310. EDM310 is a lot of computer work and that will be a big change for me. I am hoping I can adapt to these settings.
4. The most difficult thing in EDM310 will probably be keeping up with all the assignments and making sure my computer is working before the deadline.
5. The most difficult aspect of EDM310 is keeping up with assignments and providing the best of my ability in completing them.
6.Questions I have are how the future of teaching and technology will produce our future generation learning experience? What is the difference between learning using a computer as to learning with a book and paper? I plan to answer these questions as my knowledge of computers and teaching develop over this next semester.
